Rotary Club pledges to impact more lives

Members of Rotary Club of Ojodu, Lagos, have renewed their pledge to continue to serve humanity by executing projects that will improve the standard of living of people in its environs.

This was disclosed during the unveiling of its 18th president, Edwin Okon, who is to pilot the affairs of the club for the next one year.With many of the members in attendance, the occasion also witnessed the announcement of the board of directors for 2022/2023.

While the induction and installation ceremony would be held in September 25th,2022.The event, would witnessed an award ceremony and equally bring together dignitaries from different fields, who would be available to celebrate with the new president.

In his acceptance speech, Okon, a banker, told the gathering that although the country was passing through a difficult time, they would continue to embark on strategic partnerships with governments, organisations, philanthropists and others in order to achieve the set goals in his tenure.

He said: “I am humbled that I have been given the responsibility of leading a club with such a glorious past and I promise members of our great club that I will give it my best shot. I will like to ensure that the good work is continued so that we can realise our vision, which is to be recognised for committed service.

“The success of a leader is often determined by the quality of his followers. In this regard, I will say that I am greatly endowed with experienced members of this our great club. I am not under any illusion that the tasks ahead are tough, but I am confident that with your support, we shall all accomplish.”

According to him, some of the projects he intends to embark are in the areas of maternal and child health and education.

“Rotary Club of Ojodu revolved around maternal and child health, girl-child education, community development and cervical cancer, among others,” he disclosed.

 

Okon implored the rest of the members to support the club’s projects and adopt one or more of them, pledging that he would be transparent as money contributed for projects shall be used judiciously.

He said: “I want us to work like we have never worked before because the world out there requires so much from us. There are a lot of less-privileged persons in the society. It is my hope and belief that we are all going to stand up and work in synergy.”

Okon added that he was out to contribute his quota to the betterment of the society, promisi ng to build on the successes of the immediate past president.

Some of the dignitaries, who spoke at the event, described him as a capable hand, who would mobilise his team to accomplish the club’s plans for the year.

He revealed that Rotary Club of Ojodu District 9110 is a member of Rotary International, which started in 2002 and was chartered on March 8, 2005 with only 26 Members, but has over 60 members in Nigeria and in the Diaspora.

“Rotary International is a humanitarian service organisation, which brings together business and professional leaders in order to provide community service, promote integrity and advance goodwill, peace, and understanding in the world,” Okon said.
