Cristiano Ronaldo has been left out of Portugal’s squad for upcoming pre-World Cup friendlies against Mexico and the United States due to a hamstring injury.

The 41-year-old forward has not featured for Al-Nassr since late February, raising concerns over his fitness ahead of the global tournament.

However, Portugal coach Roberto Martinez downplayed the situation, describing the injury as minor and insisting it would not affect Ronaldo’s participation at the World Cup.

“It’s a minor injury,” Martinez said, adding that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner could return “within one or two weeks.”

He also reaffirmed Ronaldo’s role in the national team, stating that the veteran striker remains central to Portugal’s plans. “At the World Cup, the centre-forward position will be for Cristiano Ronaldo and Goncalo Ramos,” he said.

Portugal will face Mexico in Mexico City before taking on the United States in Atlanta, in what Martinez described as the final opportunity to test his squad ahead of the tournament.

The World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada, is scheduled to run from June 11 to July 19, with Portugal drawn in Group K alongside Colombia and Uzbekistan.
