From Obinna Odogwu, Awka
The House of Representatives member-elect for Aguata Federal Constituency, Hon. Dominic Okafor, has set up a 14-member vital information committee with which he would administer the federal constituency.
Okafor, at a brief ceremony which took place in Awka, Anambra State capital, said that the essence of the committee was to ensure that the dividends of democracy were equitably distributed amongst all the villages that make up each town.
He said that the committee members were drawn from each of the communities in the constituency and that part of their jobs were to gather vital information from every town/ward in the constituency.
Okafor said that the information would also serve as a good reference material on towns that make up Aguata Federal Constituency including the town’s administrative structure and traditional administrative structure among others.
“The idea is that after some investigation, I noticed that we don’t really have data. A lot of data are missing. We don’t really have documented data about the towns in Aguata Federal Constituency.
“Of course, you know we have 14 towns that make up the constituency and I felt that it would be good to have a reference point; that at each point, not necessarily for my use, anyway.
“Of course, it is going to be beneficial to other government functionaries. I felt that it would be good to have good information about the makeup of these towns so that every point in time one wants to attract the dividends of democracy, it is not going to be lopsided.
“I want to ensure that every part of every community, be it Umunna, be it a quarter, that they are properly represented. That’s actually the brain behind setting up this committee”, he said.
