The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspected drug peddlers and recovered eight parcels of weed suspected to be Canadian Loud concealed inside a car tyre at a vulcaniser’s shop.
In a Saturday statement, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the operation was part of sustained intelligence-led efforts to disrupt criminal networks in the state.
The command said it received actionable intelligence on September 2 regarding the activities of a known drug peddler using a vulcaniser’s shop to conceal hard drugs inside a car tyre.
Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, operatives from the Anti-Narcotics Section and State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) proceeded to the location.
Ayanlade disclosed, that with the assistance of the vulcaniser, police arrested two suspects and recovered the eight parcels of suspected Canadian Loud hidden in the tyre.
A vulcanising machine allegedly used in the process was also recovered as an exhibit.
“Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to their respective involvement in the act and are currently assisting the police with the ongoing investigation,” the statement reads in part.
Ayanlade said the suspects would be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate.
The command said tackling drug trafficking is key to the broader fight against crime, noting that hard drugs “can impair judgment, fuel violence and provide a catalyst for crimes such as cultism, robbery, kidnapping and other forms of organised criminality.”
“The Command remains committed to disrupting such networks and calls on members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information that can assist in making Oyo State safer,” the statement further reads.
