A good governance oriented pressure group, Concerned Igbo-Eze North Youths (CINY), Enugu State, has counseled the political class and elected political office holders in Igbo-Eze North LGA, Enugu state and Nigeria in general on the need to pursue people-oriented projects and programmes while in office.

Concerned Igbo-Eze North Youths (CINY), in a statement signed by its National President, Ambassador Kevin Chijioke Eze reminded politicians that politics should not be an opportunity to embezzle public funds and treasures, but rather a call to serve.

CINY in the statement titled “Igbo-Eze North Politics : Posterity never Forgets” recalled that the election process, which involves the selection of leaders in a society, has been concluded in Nigeria, Enugu State, and specifically, Igbo Eze North.

The group noted that regardless of the events that took place during the February 2023 and February 2024 rerun elections, the main takeaway is that leaders have been chosen while the important question that should be on the lips of every devoted and patriotic son or daughter of Igbo Eze North should be “what comes next?”

“This question holds great significance. It serves as a reminder that politics should not simply be an opportunity to embezzle public funds and treasures, but rather a call to serve. The compensation for this service lies in the act of service itself. The reward for a job well done is usually more responsibilities, which explains why some candidates are greeted with acclaim and support when they seek a second term, while others face opposition from the electorates based on their performance”.

The group while reflecting on the political journey so far in their area noted that in the land of Enugu Ezike Oba, they are all kin, despite any differences that may have arisen over time and due to influence.

It noted that whatever action that someone takes while in the field of civil service, politics, business, or any other area of service during their time in office, will eventually catch up to them.

“This may happen in the morning or in the evening, in the near future or the distant future. However, across generations, we must always remember that posterity never forgets or forgives. Many children of today are enjoying the fruits of their great-grandfathers’ good deeds in the land and vice versa”.

The group also tasked the people to demand good representation from their principal servants (the political office holders) and not wait on them to discuss their common patrimony solely to their detriment.

“We must as electorates, demand for quality representation and dividends from them and give them level playing ground to better our lots. Politicking has come and gone and it is time for our representatives to be up and doing and ensures they work on people-oriented projects as each clime has its peculiar problems bedeviling them”.

CINY in conclusion congratulated the winners of the concluded elections and urged the losers to maintain the spirit of brotherhood and sportsmanship.

“We look up to our “servants” to work towards creating a better Igbo Eze North” CINY said.
