The Ogun State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, and his wife, Temitope, have mourned the death of veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.
Ogogo died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66 after battling stage-four cancer.
In a tribute shared on Facebook on Monday, the couple recalled their efforts to support the actor and his family during his illness, saying they remained hopeful that he would recover.
Adeola said he and his wife stayed close to Ogogo’s family and contributed to efforts aimed at securing appropriate medical care for the actor.
“During those difficult moments, we stood closely with him and his family, supporting his treatment and doing everything humanly possible to ensure that he received the necessary medical care,” the couple said.
They said the family had continued to hope and pray that Ogogo would overcome the illness and return to his loved ones and admirers.
“We remained hopeful and prayerful that he would overcome the illness and return to the family, friends and countless admirers who cherished him. Sadly, despite all efforts, it has pleased Almighty God to call him home. Indeed, God knows best,” they added.
Adeola described the late actor as more than a prominent figure in the entertainment industry, calling him a “dear brother” and a distinguished son of Ilaro and Ogun West.
He noted that Ogogo’s career, which spanned several decades, brought entertainment to generations of Nigerians and contributed significantly to the growth of the country’s film industry.
“Alhaji Taiwo Hassan was more than an accomplished veteran of the entertainment industry to us; he was a dear brother and a proud son of Ilaro and Ogun West, whose remarkable career brought joy to generations and contributed immensely to the growth and development of the Nigerian film industry,” he said.
Adeola also praised Ogogo’s talent, humility and body of work, expressing confidence that the actor’s legacy would endure.
“His talent, humility and enduring body of work will ensure that his memory lives on,” he added.
The APC governorship candidate extended his condolences to Ogogo’s wife, children and other members of his family, as well as the people of Ilaro and Yewaland.
He also commiserated with Ogogo’s colleagues, friends and associates in the entertainment industry over the loss.
Ogogo’s daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, had previously acknowledged Adeola’s support for their father during his illness as they appealed for medical assistance.
