The crisis rocking the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a worsening dimension following the National Working Committee’s (NWC) disclaimer of Abayomi Hunye as the party’s governorship candidate for the state in next year’s general election.
In the disclaimer letter signed by the National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, the national leadership of the ruling party claimed that Hunye, who has been suspended by the party since April this year, cannot declare himself the governorship candidate of the party.
The NWC emphatically described his self-declaration as completely false, unauthorised and a mischievous act aimed at misleading the public.
The disclaimer reads: “APC, hereby informs the general public, stakeholders, the APC Ogun chapter and the good people of the state that Mr. Abayomi Hunye is an impostor who is currently on suspension as a member of the APC.
“His recent self-declaration as the governorship candidate of our great party for the 2027 election is completely false, unauthorized, and a mischievous act aimed at misleading the public.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Mr. Abayomi Hunye is not a member of the APC in good standing. He was suspended from the party on April 7, 2026, following a petition from his Ward, Tube Ward, in Ipokia Local Government Area.
“The suspension was not arbitrary. It was a grassroots decision driven by the Ward Executives in Tube Ward, ratified by the Ipokia Local Government Area, and formally approved by the Ogun State Working Committee.

“His suspension was ratified by the Ogun State Working Committee and communicated to the national headquarters. The reasons adduced for his suspension are nefarious dealings, engaging in activities injurious to the image of the party. Anti-party activities; deliberate actions aimed at causing disaffection and division among loyal members,” the NWC noted in the statement.
While setting the record straight, the party’s national leadership noted: “Consequently, he lacks the legal and moral standing to represent the APC in any capacity. We reiterate that following the validly conducted primary election of the APC, the duly nominated and elected governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election is Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan, with his running mate being Balogun Kudirat Abiodun.
“In line with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026, and the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the names and other particulars of Adeola Olamilekan and Balogun Kudirat Abiodun have been successfully uploaded onto the INEC portal and the commission has issued official acknowledgement slips confirming them as the duly recognised flag bearers of the APC for the Ogun State governorship election scheduled for January 2027.
“Any person, group, or organisation that associates, collaborates, or transacts any political business with Mr. Abayomi Hunye under the guise of the APC does so at their own risk. The party will not be held liable for any financial loss, legal disputes, or criminal liability that may arise from such dealings,” it warned.
Reading a further riot act, the NWC revealed that: “We have instructed our legal team to initiate contempt proceedings and file a formal complaint with the relevant security agencies to address this gross misrepresentation and impersonation. We warn the media and the public to disregard any publications, interviews, or documents originating from Mr. Hunye regarding the APC. We also caution all media houses against granting Mr. Hunye a platform to propagate his false claims, as this could be interpreted as complicity in a fraudulent act.
“While urging our teeming supporters to remain calm, law-abiding, and ignore any provocations from detractors aimed at disrupting the peace of the state we implore all concerned that for clarification and official updates, to please contact the APC National Secretariat through the Office of the National Secretary,” the NWC noted.
