Deputy Inspector General Of Police, Administration and Finance, Bala Ciroma, has called for patience and adherence to the rule of engagement devoid of violent acts. He spoke in Azare, Katagun Local Government, Bauchi State:
“My call to Nigerians, most especially protesters is to exercise patience. They have the right to protest but they lack the right to burn or destroy public or government property. People should always reason very well before they act.
“Normalcy has returned to Azare where a 24-hour curfew was imposed by the state government following the unfortunate incident. There is need for us to further fortify the security around the area to avert future occurrence. We met stakeholders and enlightened them on the dangers of such violent protest.”
He warned protesters against carrying or waving flag of other countries: “Such action amounts to treasonable felony, as such, they are exposing themselves to prosecution.
“Let us be careful of how we express ourselves in term of protest. There is a protest and there is also what we call insurgency. We have to be careful.
“The swift and fatherly role played by the governor assisted greatly in de-escalating the violence in the local government.”
