The Social Democratic Party (SDP), as well as the Action Democratic Party (ADP), yesterday, congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari, winner of the February 23 presidential election.

SDP’s factional Chairman, Professor Tunde Adeniran, who stated this in a statement by his Director, Media and Publicity, Yemi Akinbode, further called on president Buhari to seize the opportunity of his re-election to strengthen the unity of Nigeria and promote lasting peace.

Adeniran said: “It gives us great pleasure to extend our warm congratulations to you on your re-election as the president of our dear country Nigeria.

“Your success in this keenly contested election is attestation of the firm belief and confidence the people of Nigeria have in you as a leader who has devoted all his life to serving the people.

“We share your ethos as a party and we believe you would meet the expectations of Nigerians; with regards to deepening of our democracy, delivering good governance and promoting development rooted in social justice, freedom, equality, securing, peace and progress,” he said.

Meanwhile, ADP, also, in a statement, by the Director, Media and Publicity, Yabagi Yusuf Sani Presidential Campaign Council, Pam Ibrahim, urged the president to initiate projects geared towards revamping the economy.

“ADP urges the president to embark on policies that will revamp the economy, unite Nigerians, create jobs and end endemic corruption ravaging Nigeria.

“We, in the ADP, particularly the presidential election, where we featured one of the most distinguished Nigerians as our candidate, Yabagi Yusuf Sani; regardless of the outcome of the election, we believe Nigeria must move on.

“We heartily thank Nigerians who are the real heroes of democracy, particularly our members who trooped out on the election day to cast their votes.

“We encourage Nigerians, most especially great ADP members, nationwide, to come out in large numbers to exercise their franchise by voting for ADP governorship and Houses of Assembly candidates on March 9,” Ibrahim said.
