Chinese Govt Tackles US Over Leader of Taiwan Region’s Transit Through United States
…Takes Countermeasures Against Institutions, Officials
The Chinese Government has responded to actions by the United States institutions and officials over the leader of the Taiwan Region, Tsai Ing-wen’s transit through the United States. The Chinese Government took countermeasures against the institutions and officials in a decree issued on April 7, 2023, and signed by Chinese Foreign Minister, Qin Gang.
Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Mao Ning, in a statement issued in Beijing, said in disregard to China’s serious representations and repeated warnings, the United States deliberately greenlighted the transit of Tsai Ing-wen through the United States.
The Chinese Government stated that the United States House Speaker, Kevin McCarthy, who is the number three in the United States Government, had a high-profile meeting with Tsai, while also saying that other United States officials and lawmakers had contact with Tsai and provided the platform for her separatist rhetoric for “Taiwan independence”.
The Chinese Government however took countermeasures against the Hudson Institute, the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum and their leaders. In the decree, the Chinese Government said: “In disregard of China’s repeated representations and firm opposition, the United States allowed Tsai Ing-wen, leader of the Taiwan region, to “transit” in the U.S. and engage in political activities there from 29 to 31 March and from 4 to 6 April 2023. Hudson Institute and the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum provided platform and facilitation for Tsai Ing-wen’s “Taiwan independence” separatist activities in the U.S. It is a serious violation of the one-China principle and the provisions of the three China-U.S. joint communiqués, and a grave infringement upon China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“Pursuant to Articles 4, 5, 6 and 15 of the Law of the People’s Republic of China on Countering Foreign Sanctions, China decides to take the following countermeasures against the institutions and individuals as listed in the attached List of Targets of Countermeasures, including Hudson Institute, the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum and their leaders.
“For the two institutions, i.e., Hudson Institute and the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum, all universities, institutes and other organizations, and individuals within China shall be strictly prohibited from engaging in transaction, exchange, cooperation and other activities with them.
“For the four individuals, i.e., Sarah May Stern, Chair of the Hudson Institute Board of Trustees; John P. Walters, President and CEO of Hudson Institute; John Heubusch, former Executive Director of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute which sustains the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum; and Joanne M. Drake, Chief Administrative Officer of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute: all of their movable and immovable properties, and other kinds of assets within China shall be frozen; all organizations and individuals within China shall be prohibited from engaging in transaction, cooperation and other activities with them. They shall be denied visas or entry into China.”
What Has China Done in Three Years of Fighting against COVID-19!
It has been over three years since the outbreak of COVID-19. With the virus mutating, severe cases and mortality aused by the Omicron ariant ave significantly dropped, ndicating a milestone in the global fight against COVID. During the past three years, China had effectively protected the lives of its people and contributed its wisdom and strength to this lobal fight.
China has always safeguarded the health of its people. ver the past three years, the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese government have struck a balance between prevention measures and socioeconomic evelopment, drawing on China’s conditions to formulate policies that were in the best interests of the general public. As a result, China has experienced the lowest number of COVID deaths among the world’s major countries. What some have labeled as the “failure of the dynamic zero-COVID policy” is nothing more than a fallacy without a shred of truth. At the height of he virus’ deadliest period, China mobilized all its resources and spared no expense to protect the health of its people, which has contributed to the fight against the pandemic of people all over the world. Whether it was a newborn baby or a centenarian, China’s policy nsured that no infected person was left behind and no patient was abandoned. The concept f “putting the people and their lives above all else” has been consistent.
