The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the international community to impose sanctions, including visa ban and travel restriction on President Muhammadu Buhari and his family at the expiration of his tenure on May 29, this year, for allegedly undermining democracy in the country.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, who made the call at a press conference on Friday in Abuja, was reacting to the statement by President that the opposition lost the 2023 presidential poll because of overconfidence.

The President had told some All  Progressive Congress (APC) governors, on Thursday that overconfidence, complacency as well bad tactical moves were responsible for the loss of the opposition in the just concluded general elections.

However, Ologunagba described President Buhari’s comments as “reckless and un-presidential”, noting that the comments were allegedly generating tension in the country.

He noted  that the February 25, 2023 Presidential election has been adjudged across the country  and globally as the worst in the history of the country, as it was allegedly marred by “brazen violation of the provisions” of the 1999 Constitution, the Electoral Act and electoral guidelines.

Ologunagba accused the President of gloating over the alleged trampling of the will of the people at the polls by blaming the opposition for being overconfident and, according to him, for not being ‘tactical’”.

“Nigerians believed and expected President Buhari to leave a legacy of a free, fair and credible election based on his numerous undertakings and promises but he is leaving an ignoble, dishonorable and disgraceful legacy of enabling and superintending over the worst election conducted in the history of democracy in Nigeria,” he said.
