The Enugu State Police Command has bursted a notorious kidnapping gang’s hideout leading to the arrest of suspects linked to burglary, car theft, and the recovery of firearms, ammunition, and other stolen items.
A statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, on Saturday detailed the Command’s recent achievements.
According to the statement, a team of operatives from the Nsukka Area Command raided a kidnaper’s hideout in the Nru community of Nsukka Local Government Area on December 15, 2024.
Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives engaged the suspects in a gunfight, forcing them to flee with gunshot wounds.
Recovered items included a loaded revolver pistol, a cut-to-size single-barrel gun, two live cartridges, military camouflage uniforms, a Moniepoint POS machine, and ATM cards.
Preliminary investigations revealed the gang’s involvement in recent kidnapping incidents and other criminal activities in Nsukka. Efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects.”
In a separate operation, police officers from the Abakaliki Road Division arrested four burglary suspects, Nelson Uchechi (22), Waziri Adamu (21), Auwal Kachalla (30), and Abba Mohammed on November 14, 2024.
The suspects allegedly broke into a residence in GRA, Enugu, stealing bicycles, laptops, phones, and other valuables.
“The stolen items were recovered, and the suspects confessed to the crime. They have since been arraigned in court and remanded in custody,” the statement confirmed.
Similarly, in early December 2024, operatives from the Central Police Station apprehended 35-year-old Chukwudi Chika for stealing a red Volkswagen Passat car from the premises of a church at Coal Camp, Enugu.
The car was recovered, and the suspect admitted to committing the crime. He has also been arraigned and remanded in custody.
The Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, reassured residents of the Command’s dedication to ensuring safety throughout the festive season and beyond.
“The Command is unwavering in its commitment to maintaining public security and safety in Enugu State,” Uzuegbu said.
“We urge citizens to remain vigilant, report suspicious individuals and activities, and cooperate with law enforcement agents to sustain peace and security across the state.”
The police encouraged members of the public to provide timely information to aid ongoing investigations and operations.
