The Delta State Government has assured the 2,550 prospective members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), deployed to the state for the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream II orientation exercise, of adequate safety, security and welfare throughout their service year.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori gave the assurance on Friday at the opening and swearing-in ceremony of the three-week orientation course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area.

The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development and Special Projects, Hon. Brave Enodeh, said the state government remained committed to creating an enabling environment for corps members to discharge their national assignments without fear.

He said the government, under its MORE Agenda, recognised corps members as important partners in the development of the state and would continue to collaborate with NYSC management, security agencies, local government authorities and host communities to guarantee their protection and welfare.

Oborevwori disclosed that interventions had commenced to improve facilities at the orientation camp, including the provision of a new borehole and rehabilitation of critical infrastructure to enhance water supply, sanitation and general living conditions.

He said the government would sustain its partnership with the NYSC and respond to identified areas of need within available resources.

The governor urged the corps members to take the orientation programme seriously, describing it as a critical phase designed to prepare them physically, mentally and morally for the challenges of national service.

He encouraged them to participate actively in lectures, drills, skills acquisition sessions and other activities, particularly the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, which he said would equip them with practical skills for self-reliance and economic independence.

Oborevwori also urged the corps members to embrace Nigeria’s cultural diversity, respect the traditions of their host communities and uphold the core values of patriotism, discipline, humility, tolerance and selfless service.

He advised them to remain security-conscious, shun acts capable of endangering their lives and strive to make meaningful contributions to the development of their host communities.

Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr John Vandi T. Kwaghe, disclosed that a total of 2,550 prospective corps members, comprising 1,039 males and 1,511 females, had registered for the orientation exercise.

Kwaghe said the corps members commenced registration on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, and had been fully kitted ahead of their swearing-in and commencement of the three-week programme.

He said the orientation course had been carefully structured to instil the core values and ideals of the NYSC Scheme, expressing confidence in the commitment of camp officials and resource persons to delivering a rewarding experience.

The state coordinator commended the corps members for their discipline and cooperation, noting that they had demonstrated commendable conduct since arriving at the camp.

However, he appealed to the state government to provide additional facilities to address the camp’s pressing infrastructure challenges.

Specifically, he requested the sinking of an additional industrial borehole to address persistent water shortages and the frequent breakdown of the existing borehole.

He also appealed for the provision of a 150KVA industrial solar-powered system or a new generator to tackle irregular electricity supply, noting that the existing generator had outlived its useful years.

Kwaghe expressed appreciation to the state government for the recently completed re-roofing and renovation of the camp’s multi-purpose hall, saying the intervention would improve lectures and indoor social activities.

He also acknowledged the contributions of the Chief Judge of Delta State, Justice Tessy Diai, represented by Justice C.N. Ogadi, for administering the Oath of Allegiance to the prospective corps members.

Other personalities appreciated included the Executive Chairman of Aniocha North Local Government Area, Hon. Emmanuel Bazim Chinye, and the Obi of Issele-Uku Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Obi Engr. Nduka Ezeagwuna, represented by his palace chiefs.

The state coordinator also commended security agencies, medical personnel, collaborating institutions, development partners and other stakeholders for their continued support for the NYSC Scheme in Delta State.

He urged the corps members to regard their deployment to Delta as an opportunity to contribute to the state’s development and wished all invited guests journey mercies to their respective destinations.

The governor subsequently declared the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream II orientation course in Delta State officially open.
