The Gombe state police command has announced the arrest of a suspected dealer and supplier of indian hemp in the state.
According to the Police, about 495 kilograms of the dry leaves, worth N12.6 million were recovered from the suspect who was parading himself as a police officer in Gombe.
This was disclosed by the Gombe state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO),DSP Buhari Abdullahi in a statement yesterday, explaining that the suspect,Vincent Ojo ,52, was arrested with the contraband in a black Lexus vehicle, during the state’s end of the month General sanitation on Saturday in Gombe metropolis.
He added that the suspect presented himself to the officers attached to Operation Hattara, as a police officer serving at Force Headquarters, Abuja:”During the course of interrogation the suspect couldn’t present any Staff tag, his rank nor to mention the department he is attached to. While searching the said vehicle, 495 kilograms of Indian hemp was discovered loaded with estimated value at N12,652, 000 and additional Number plate BWR290AX was recovered as exhibit”.
According to the PPRO, the suspect confessed that he bought and transported the exhibit all the way from Ajegunle village in Elesha Local Government Area (LGA) of Osun state to Plateau state, where he reloaded it with intention of delivering the contraband to his buyer in Biu LGA of Borno state.
While stating that the suspect will be charged to court for prosecution upon conclusion of investigation, Buhari said, “the command urged members of the public to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity in due time for possible promptly response”.
