The Pivot Nigeria initiative is seeking a reshape of how Nigerians and the world perceive the country, spotlighting its potential through what it calls courageous conversations.
At its inaugural event in Lagos themed “Pivot Nigeria: Reframing the Lens,” and organized by HighStakes PR Professionals (@highstakesprpros), participants from business, government, culture, and civil society gathered to spark a shift in the national narrative.
The event, which aligned with Nigeria’s 65th Independence celebrations, emphasized the power of storytelling in redefining the country’s image. Discussions centered on encouraging Nigerians to intentionally tell their own stories, embody their unique “Nigerian Presence,” and showcase the nation’s strengths rather than its limitations.
Convener Victoria Uwadoka, Public Relations and Sustainability leader, described Pivot Nigeria as “a thought-leadership platform designed to reframe Nigeria’s reputation agenda.” She said,
“Pivot Nigeria is about reframing the lens how we see ourselves and how the world sees us. It’s about challenging old narratives, celebrating authentic stories, and co-creating solutions that reflect the true spirit of our nation.”
Uwadoka noted that changing global perceptions of Nigeria is critical to attracting investment, boosting tourism, and strengthening national pride.
“The way the world sees us influences our confidence at home. By reframing our story, we inspire belief — in ourselves and in our nation,” she added.
Speakers included cultural icon Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD), Emeka Mba of Afia TV, and Rosemary Egabor-Afolahan, among others, who shared insights on reclaiming the Nigerian story through integrity, creativity, and collaboration.
Uwadoka stressed that Pivot Nigeria is more than an event it is a movement requiring collective ownership:
“As individuals, we must represent our nation well. As professionals, we must uphold integrity and excellence. And as organizations, we must drive responsible practices that inspire change.”
Convened by HighStakes PR Professionals, the initiative seeks to inspire collaborative projects, influence policy, and empower citizens to see themselves as agents of change.
“The conversation begins, but the movement continues to redefine Nigeria’s image, both locally and globally,” Uwadoka affirmed.
