Canadian-based philanthropist, Reverend Chinedu Nmezi, has empowered over 2,000 widows in the three senatorial districts of Imo State with cash ranging from a N100,000 – N150,000.
All the beneficiaries, according to Nmezi who is also the co-founder of Vivian Nmezi Foundation, were selected from Owerri, Okigwe and Orlu zones in line with his foundation’s interest in reaching out to the less privileged, especially at a time the country is in economic mess.
Besides the cash given to the widows, 50 physically challenged also received a wheelchair each.
Meanwhile, Nmezi who is also a cleric has been honoured by the Anglican church in recognition of his exemplary contributions to his dedicated service to humanity.
The award was also extended to his wife Vivian, co-founder of the foundation for her supportive roles.
Presenting the merit award, at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Nkwerre, Nkwerre Local Government Area, the Vicar, Reverend Maxwell Mgbemere, said the church decided to honour Nmezi because of his humanitarian gestures both to the church and the indigent people in the society.
Responding after he received the award, Nmezi said: “This honour is a call for more work. I am not going to take this award for granted, I hereby dedicate it to my wife.”
