Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has intensified grassroots mobilisation for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in Nasarawa State, with the APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) Women Mobilisation Directorate engaging communities, visiting a hospital and market, and empowering 1,000 women.

The activities, which took place in Lafia, also featured engagements at the Government House and culminated in an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally, where party leaders called for sustained support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking at the rally, the Co-Director of the APC PCC Women Mobilisation Directorate, Dr Betta Edu, urged residents of Nasarawa State to remain committed to the APC, declaring that the party remained the best option for the state and the country.

Edu, who later addressed journalists, emphasised the strategic role of women in grassroots mobilisation, describing them as a critical force in determining electoral outcomes.

She urged APC women across the state to strengthen mobilisation at the ward, community and local government levels, taking the party’s message to markets, homes and rural communities.

As part of the outreach, the Directorate visited the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Lafia, where members engaged patients, healthcare workers and other stakeholders on behalf of the First Lady.

The visit underscored the importance of accessible healthcare and compassionate support for vulnerable Nigerians.

The team also visited the Women Modern Market in Lafia, where it interacted with traders and market women, discussed the economic policies of the Tinubu administration and highlighted opportunities for women’s participation in economic development.

The market engagement featured an empowerment initiative targeting 1,000 women, aimed at strengthening livelihoods, promoting economic inclusion and improving their welfare.

Highlighting the administration’s women-focused interventions, Edu said economic empowerment, financial inclusion, healthcare, education and social protection remained central to President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

She also commended the First Lady for her interventions through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), describing the programme as a demonstration of compassionate leadership and commitment to improving the welfare of women and vulnerable groups.

Edu cited several interventions implemented in Nasarawa State through the initiative, including the distribution of household empowerment items to 500 vulnerable women.

The items included deep freezers, gas cookers, ovens, grinding machines and generators to support small businesses and improve household incomes.

She further disclosed that 500 women traders across the state’s 13 local government areas received business grants of ₦50,000 each in partnership with the Tony Elumelu Foundation.

According to her, more than 500 women also benefited from dry-season agricultural training, while 250 persons living with disabilities received ₦200,000 each to support their businesses and strengthen their economic independence.

The APC PCC official said the interventions reflected the commitment of President Tinubu and the First Lady to expanding economic opportunities, promoting self-reliance and improving the livelihoods of women and other vulnerable groups.

She called on APC women in Nasarawa to sustain their support for the Renewed Hope Agenda through unity, voter education and effective grassroots mobilisation.

Edu stressed that the achievements of the administration must be communicated effectively to communities to encourage greater public participation and support ahead of the 2027 elections.

She urged women to translate their political enthusiasm into active participation and votes, describing them as indispensable to the APC’s grassroots strength and electoral prospects.

The Lafia engagements form part of the APC PCC Women Mobilisation Directorate’s nationwide activities aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots structures and consolidating support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
