From Oluseye Ojo, Ibadan
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, who is seeking a second term in office on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has won in 31 of the 33 Local Government Areas of the state in the just-concluded governorship poll conducted in the state on Saturday.
The fact emerged as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has concluded announcement of the gubernatorial election results on local government basis.
The final declaration of the winner of the poll officially is being awaited at the INEC head office in Ibadan, the state capital. The Returning Officer for the state is the Vice Chancellor, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, Prof Adebayo Bamire.
The results also showed that the governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Teslim Folarin, won in two local governments of Orelope and Irepo. The impeached former deputy governor of the state, Rauf Olaniyan, hails from Orelope, while the current deputy governor, Alhaji Adebayo Lawal, also hails from Irepo, but the two local governments are in the same federal constituency.
The governorship candidates of Accord and Labour Party (LP) Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and Mr. Taofeek Akinwale respectively and other candidates did not win in any of the 33 local government areas.
