Commissioner of Information, Culture & Tourism, Oyo State, Prince Dotun Oyelade, has described the invasion by some persons into the Oyo State government secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, last week as an act of terrorism and a treasonable felony.
In a monitored interview, the Commissioner said he was not informed about such plans, however such people were set of people in the minority who are agitating for a particular course but in the wrong way.
“They armed themselves with bump action guns, 7 of them, over 700 live cartridges were in their possession and several other kinds of arsenal. They came to the seat of power in Oyo State, the legislature and sought to capture it by force. That has no other name other than Felony and the implication is clear”
The Commissioner added that if the invaders were truly Yorubas, they wouldn’t asked for an independent Nation in the wrong manner, saying, “Yorubas are too smart for that kind of Felon action that would lead to nowhere, the agitators are unserious and overzealous young people, they’re going the very wrong way”
On the purpose, Oyelade said it’s too early to conjecture, but what is clear is that a set of people are clamouring for a Yoruba Nation State. “A Yoruba State can only be achieved not by violence but by a legal legislative means. Whoever prodding these people has just led them to the colony of felony, which is very unfortunate” he added.
Recall that Police authorities in Oyo State in conjunction with other security agencies have arrested 20 suspects over the invasion. The State police command spokesman, Osifeso Adewale said in a statement, said, “In all, (20) twenty suspects have been arrested in possession of; (3) three pump action guns, (291)two hundred and ninety-one life cartridges, (2) two expended cartridges, (67) sixty-seven cutlasses, (5) five bulletproof vest, (6) six pair of boots, (10) ten megaphone (public address system),(3) three Oodua styles beret caps, (7) seven belts, (11) eleven Oodua Nation army camouflage uniforms, (1) one unregistered Nissan Urban Caravan bus and (3) three TVs motor motorcycles.”
