The Edo State Government has dismissed reports that popular Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has been banned from entering the state, describing the purported directive as the handiwork of an impostor and fraud.
In a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, the state government said it completely dissociated itself from what it described as spiteful efforts to create hostility between the government and the music star.
According to Afegbua, Edo State remains home to everyone, irrespective of political affiliation, beliefs, persuasion or association, stressing that Davido would be warmly received should he decide to visit the state.
The Commissioner further stated that the Edo State Government would be willing to collaborate with Davido if he chooses to perform in the state in the future.
“Davido is one of our illustrious sons, whose mother hails from Edo State. He is exemplary, and we are pleased to associate with him,” Afegbua said.
He added that Governor Monday Okpebholo has maintained a balanced approach in relating with the various demographic and political interests across the state.

Afegbua explained that whatever disagreements may have emerged during the aftermath of the recent Osun State election were purely political and should not be interpreted as a personal dispute between Davido and the Edo State Government.
The Commissioner described Davido as one of Nigeria’s prominent global ambassadors, praising his contributions to the country’s image and his ability to build bridges across social and political divides.
He also commended the singer for his dedication and achievements in the music industry, expressing optimism that Davido would eventually receive a Grammy Award.
The Edo Government therefore urged the public to disregard any purported ban on Davido, reaffirming that the state remains open and welcoming to him.
“Edo is home to all, and Davido is welcome.”
