The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has lamented slow pace of work on the Ibadan-Iwo-Osogbo road being jointly funded by the government of Oyo and Osun States.

He appealed to Governor Ademola Adeleke and his Oyo State counterpart, Seyi Makinde, to expedite action on the same work to ensure quick delivery of the road for the benefit of the people.

The construction of the road was started by Makinde of Oyo and the ex-Osun governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, who jointly awarded the 91-kilometer (Osun 55.4km and Oyo 35.6km) road in 2022 at N24 billion.

Oluwo urged Governor Adeleke and the contractor handling the 55.4 kilometers Osun section of the road, Engr Lanre Adeleke, to come to terms with each other.

The monarch stated this during an inspection tour to the Egberi river bridge, Olodo area of Ibadan, Oyo State on Wednesday, commending Makinde for his commitment towards ensuring that the project is completed and delivered to the benefit of the people.

“This bridge was not part of the plan. It was a culvert that was designed for this place until last year December when it was discovered that a bridge is required for this place.

“I must commend Governor Seyi who hurriedly okayed the change of design from culvert to bridge. I must also applaud the contractor, Lanre Adeleke who has almost finished this work within the short period,” Oluwo said.

“I am appealing to the governor to give the contractor more money to finish up this work. Any issue around the Osogbo/Iwo/Ibadan road is between Governor Ademola Adeleke and the contractor, I don’t know the modalities and how much has been given on that contract. I want to appeal to both the governor and the contractor to come to terms to deliver this project. Roads are very important to the masses,” the monarch said.
