THE Osun State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), yesterday, filed a stay of execution on the court’s judgment delivered by Justice Saka Falola on June 3, 2016, which legalised wearing of hijab in public schools.
The association’s chairman, Reverend Elisha Ogundiya disclosed this during a solidarity visit to the state CAN headquarters in Osogbo by the South-West leaders of the association.
CAN leaders from across the state’s 30 local governments and Ife-East Area Office, Modakeke, attended the parley amid a heavy presence of the police and other security agencies.
CAN representatives from Ogun, Oyo, Ekiti and Ondo states, yesterday, stormed the state and expressed their support for the state Christian community on the controversial judgment as well as their readiness to fight against any form of Islamisation agenda by Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
Reverend Aro, Secretary of South-West CAN, who spoke on behalf of the association’s Zonal Chairman, Archbishop Magnus Atilade, warned that any attempt by Muslim students to wear Hijab to schools after an appeal had been filed would mean that CAN too would ensure that all manners of church garments would be worn to public schools in the state.
