…Says Internal Crisis Led to Gwarzo’s Disqualification

The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed allegations by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso linking the party and its governorship candidate to the disqualification of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, ahead of the 2027 general election.

Kwankwaso, the vice presidential candidate of the NDC, had alleged that the APC and its candidate Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, were behind moves to exclude Gwarzo’s name from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) list.

In a statement signed by its State Chairman, Umar Haruna Doguwa, the party described the allegation as false, baseless and a deliberate attempt at political blackmail.

The party stated that neither the APC nor its governorship candidate has any involvement whatsoever in the legal proceedings surrounding the NDC candidate.

According to the APC, the case originated from an internal crisis within the NDC and was instituted by aggrieved members of the party against the NDC itself, and not by the APC, its candidate or the Kano State Government.

“The attempt to associate the APC and its candidate, Governor Yusuf, with the matter is misleading and intended to divert attention from the internal challenges confronting the NDC,” the statement said.

The party further challenged Kwankwaso to provide credible and verifiable evidence to support his claim, rather than making allegations capable of misleading the public and heating up the polity.

The APC stressed that it has no interest in interfering with the electoral process or using state power against political opponents, noting that every eligible candidate has a constitutional right to participate in the 2027 elections in accordance with the law.

It added that the judiciary is an independent arm of government and neither the party nor its candidate has the authority to dictate its proceedings or decisions.

Reaffirming its commitment to democratic principles, the party said it welcomes the participation of all opposition parties and has no reason to plot against any candidate.

It urged Kwankwaso and other political actors to allow relevant institutions to discharge their constitutional responsibilities without politicising legal matters arising from internal party disputes.

The party called on the public to disregard attempts to link the APC and its governorship candidate to the NDC’s internal legal battle, reiterating that it has no hand, directly or indirectly, in the case. End.
