Olubadan-in-Council has taken a significant step to resolve the raging dispute over the Onido Stool in Ido, Ibadan by inaugurating a three-man panel to investigate the causes of the crisis.

The move followed Olubadan’s intervention in the crisis, where three individuals are claiming authority over the kingdom.

The three concerned are Oba Benjamin Ademola Ishola Orobiyi, Oba Tajudeen Akinola and Oba Muritala Babalola.

The panel, inaugurated by the Olubadan, Oba Rasheed Ladoja, at the Olubadan Palace, Oke-Aremo, Ibadan, yesterday, is being chaired by the Osi Olubadan, Oba Biodun Kola-Daisi, and comprises Ekerin Balogun, Oba Akeem Mobolaji Adewoyin; and Aare-Ago Balogun, Chief Lateef Adetokunbo Akintola, as member and secretary, respectively.

Part of the panel’s mandate is to look into the remote and immediate causes of the Onido stool crisis. The second mandate of the panel is to make far -reaching recommendations that would guide the Olubadan and his council in resolving the 19-year old crisis once and for all.

Briefing the media, Oba Adewoyin said the panel has a one-month deadline to receive information and submit its report.

Meanwhile, Oba Kola-Daisi, the panel chairman, has called on members of the public to provide information to aid the committee’s work, assuring that the investigation would start immediately.

The Olubadan’s media aide, Mr. Adeola Oloko, quoted the committee chairman as saying: “The work starts immediately. We welcome all information from members of the public.”

The committee has four weeks within which to receive information and turn in their reports.

According to Oloko, Ladoja, in exercise of his power as the prescribed and consenting authority on all chieftaincy matters in Ibadan, chose to set up the panel.

Barely one week ago, stakeholders of Ido town in Ido Local Government Area of the state had raised fresh concerns over the Onido of Ido dispute. According to them, Ido has been in a delicate situation since 1997 because they have had three different people, claiming to be Onido, while the town has witnessed multiple appointments and counter appointments, which have deepened division.

The stakeholders had also appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde Makinde of Oyo State, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, to intervene in the matter.
