The Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr. Ayo Ogunsan, has urged youths and community advocates to uphold integrity and shun all forms of crime and social vices.

Ogunsan gave the charge during a strategic implementation meeting with members of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund Campaign Against Crimes, Cultism and Other Vices (LSSTF-CACCOV), led by its State Coordinator, Dr. Moses Oladimeji.

He stressed that the success of any security intervention depends largely on the moral standing and discipline of those entrusted with its execution.

Ogunsan warned members against acts capable of tarnishing the credibility of the initiative, saying any form of misconduct would not be tolerated.

“You must be above board. No one should accuse you of defrauding them. The moment we hear such, you are out. We will not allow anyone to bring disrepute to this organisation. This goes beyond you to the company you keep. If your associate is involved in cultism, you should not be in such a circle,” he said.

The LSSTF-CACCOV initiative is a preventive, community-driven strategy aimed at tackling insecurity by constructively engaging youths and steering them away from crime, cultism and other social vices.

In Lagos, widely regarded as Nigeria’s commercial hub and a key economic centre in West Africa, stakeholders have continued to emphasise the strong link between security and economic growth. Youths, who make up a significant portion of the population, play a critical role in this dynamic.

Ogunsan further urged young people to remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding their communities by reporting suspicious activities and promoting accountability.

He noted that sustainable development cannot thrive in an atmosphere of fear and lawlessness.

Speaking on behalf of the committee, Oladimeji reaffirmed the group’s commitment to grassroots engagement and youth reorientation.

“We recognise that crime and cultism are major concerns in our communities. This initiative is designed as a preventive approach to positively engage youths to resist these vices so that we can all live in a peaceful environment. For businesses to thrive and careers to grow, security is essential,” he said.

Security experts have consistently maintained that investment in youth development through education, mentorship, entrepreneurship and gainful engagement remains one of the most effective strategies for crime prevention.

By positioning young people as stakeholders and ambassadors of peace, LSSTF-CACCOV aims to reshape community values and promote responsibility, productivity and lawful conduct.

Those present at the meeting included Director of Administration, LSSTF, Mr. Adegbola Lewis; Executive Assistant, Adaobi Nwankwo; Assistant State Coordinator/General Secretary, Uzezi Akinwoleola; Head, Human Resources and Training, Prominence Promise; Head, Education, Advocacy and Empowerment, Joseph Akinwoleola; Head, Media, Press and Public Relations, Taiwo Idris; and Head, Strategy, Digital Communication and Technology, Olugbogi Nathanael.
