From Laide Raheem, Abeokuta
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Bolaji Adeniji, has declared that the exit of the daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, from the party will not in any way affect the fortune of the APC and its governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, in the 2027 general election.
Adeniji, who described the departure of the APC governorship aspirant in the state as “inconsequential”, said her exit has not caused any rancour in the party; rather, it has made it stronger, more united and more focused on victory next year.
Senator Obasanjo-Bello had announced her exit from the Ogun APC in a letter addressed to the leadership of the party, citing disrespect and maltreatment of her supporters.
Addressing journalists on Wednesday in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, Adeniji, who is also the Convener of the Ogun West Initiative, however, said the chances of the party are not threatened by the departure of the former Commissioner for Health in the state.
He argued that the guber aspirant, who had been in a “political hiatus” for 15 years, has no investment in the APC, hence her exit was not viewed as a big issue by the party.
“The exit of Senator Iyabo Obasanjo from the APC following her unsuccessful bid for the APC gubernatorial ticket is inconsequential. She has no investment in the party, no stake in its growth, and no contribution to its electoral goodwill; therefore, her departure changes nothing and will not, in any measure, affect the fortunes of YAYI and the APC.
“The party remains strong, united, and focused on victory. The progressive party will not be treated as an emergency platform of convenience to pursue self-seeking ideologies at the expense of patriots who have laboured to build it and delivered good to the people,” Adeniji stated.

He, however, slammed the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Oladipupo Adebutu, for allegedly taking umbrage against Senator Adeola in order to score cheap political points.
According to Adeniji, “rather than Adebutu and his cronies campaigning on the strength of his electoral credentials and plans for Ogun people, they have rather chosen to resurrect the long-buried and malicious issue about the indigenship of Senator Adeola.
“Adebutu’s ambition is nothing more than a wild goose chase. The people of Ogun State have seen through his lack of capacity, character, popularity, and acceptability. He will be roundly defeated by Senator Adeola, whose towering political stature and grassroots connection remain unmatched.
“Let me be unequivocal on this: This narrative of ‘non-indigene’ is dead, defeated, and irrelevant in Ogun State politics today. Senator Adeola is a genuine son of Yewa, Ogun State.
Anyone who refuses to engage him on policy and programmes but instead clings to stale allegations, is merely dancing naked in the city square. The people have moved on, and the conversation today is about the dividends of democracy that the senator has been offering and the huge expectation of what he is set to offer the people from 2027,” the APC chieftain said.
Adeniji, who disclosed that the APC governorship candidate will soon unveil his economic blueprint for Ogun State, urged the people to continue to trust and embrace Senator Adeola as the undisputed choice to be entrusted with the office of governor come February 2027.
“Adeola represents competence, vision, and progress. Yayi is firmly focused on his forthcoming campaigns. He will soon present to the people of Ogun State his lofty manifesto and economic blueprint. His plans are designed to bring exponential growth, development, and progress to the Gateway State.
His popularity and statewide acceptability is not manufactured; it was earned through years of service, dedication, and results,” he submitted.
