Prominent elders and leaders from Ogbomoso have distanced themselves from Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, who is facing allegations in connection with the alleged fake presidential agency scandal.
In a statement issued after an emergency meeting and co-signed by Chief Alao Adelabu Adeyinka and Prince Olatubosun Adeniyi, the community representatives said Adeyemi does not hold any recognised royal title in Ogbomoso.
The elders, under the aegis of the Ogbomoso Integrity Forum, said his alleged actions should not be linked to the people of Ogbomoso and called on the relevant authorities to ensure due process is followed in the ongoing investigation.
The statement follows reports that Adeyemi is facing allegations of forging documents and impersonating an official of a purported presidential agency. The matter is currently before the appropriate authorities.
The Ogbomoso Integrity Forum also denied reports linking Adeyemi’s claimed royal status to any recognised ruling house in the town.
The statement read: “We, the elders and custodians of Ogbomoso’s rich cultural heritage, unequivocally distance ourselves from Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew in relation to the ongoing fake agency scandal that has brought unnecessary scrutiny to our peaceful community.
“For far too long, individuals have hidden behind unverified titles, but we stand firm today to declare that he is not and has never been a recognised prince in any of the ruling houses of Ogbomoso.
“Our royal traditions are sacred and should not be exploited through unverified claims.
“We urge the federal authorities to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure justice is served in accordance with the law. Ogbomoso remains a land of honest, God-fearing people committed to national development, and we will not allow the actions of one individual to tarnish our collective image.”
The Forum added: “The people of Ogbomoso are known for integrity, industry and respect for constituted authority.
“We reject any association with his claimed princely status, which has no basis in our traditional chieftaincy system or royal lineages. Such claims only serve to undermine the genuine efforts of our kings and chiefs in promoting peace and progress.
“We call on all indigenes at home and abroad to remain vigilant and to uphold the values for which Ogbomoso is known.
“The current Soun of Ogbomoso and other traditional rulers have always emphasised ethical leadership, and we align fully with efforts to preserve the integrity and reputation of our community.”
