Obi-North alliance can defeat Tinubu in 2027 – Udenta

Obi-North alliance can defeat Tinubu in 2027 – Udenta

By Lawrence Agbo

Former presidential adviser, Udenta Udenta, has said a political alliance between Peter Obi and any strong northern candidate could defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Sunday Politics, Udenta argued that such a North-South pairing would present a formidable challenge to the ruling party, insisting that Tinubu’s current record would make re-election difficult.

He criticised the administration’s performance, claiming that many of Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges have worsened under Tinubu.

“The failures of the Muhammadu Buhari presidency are the failures of the Bola Tinubu presidency,” he said, pointing to issues such as insecurity, currency depreciation, and declining living standards.

According to him, while some of the problems predated the current government, they have intensified significantly.

“The poverty capital of the world, collapse of the naira, fuel situation, and living standard depreciation started then, but Tinubu’s presidency has accelerated these challenges to a higher degree,” Udenta stated.

He further alleged that insecurity, once concentrated in parts of the North-East, has expanded under the current administration to other regions, including the North-West and North-Central.

Udenta also took aim at the ideological foundation of Nigeria’s ruling party, contrasting it with earlier political movements.

“The Alliance for Democracy had a clear vision and philosophical depth, but the All Progressives Congress is just a special purpose vehicle created to unseat the Peoples Democratic Party in 2015,” he said.

He concluded that given the current political and economic climate, a well-structured opposition alliance could unseat the incumbent government in 2027.
