Chieftains of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Peter, Chibuike Amaechi and Aminu Tambuwal, among other top political leaders, yesterday, attended the burial of Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, mother of Malam Nasiru El-Rufai, former Kaduna State Governor.

She was laid to rest in Abuja yesterday at Gudu Cemetery following funeral prayers conducted in line with Islamic rites.

According to reports, the matriarch of the el-Rufai family died on Friday in Cairo, Egypt, where she had been receiving medical treatment.

Hours after her death, el-Rufai, who had been in detention for over a month, was released.

Top government officials and dignitaries, including former and serving governors, as well as opposition figures, attended the funeral prayer.

Earlier, President Bola Tinubu, Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani and the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, had sent condolence messages to the family.

Also, prominent figures, including the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof Nentawe Yilwatda and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, had all paid condolence visits to El-Rufai at his Abuja residence.

President Bola Tinubu has described the matriarch as a remarkable woman who raised children and grandchildren contributing meaningfully to national development.

“Nasir, please accept my heartfelt condolences on the passing of your beloved mother, Hajiya Umma.

“As someone who has also lost a mother, I share your grief and understand the depth of your loss,” the President said.

Tinubu said losing a mother is deeply painful and expressed hope that cherished memories would comfort the bereaved family.

“I know no words can fully ease your sorrow, but I pray memories of her love, wisdom, and guidance bring comfort,” he said.

The President urged the family to take solace in the values she instilled and the enduring legacy she left behind.
