From John Bassey, Gusau

Brigadier General O.O. Nafiu, Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has urged 2025 Batch “A” Stream I corps members in Zamfara to respect the culture and values of their host communities. He spoke during an address at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Gusau.

Nafiu emphasised that the NYSC’s primary goal is to promote national integration and unity.

NYSC is all about national integration, development, and building a viable youth corps that can successfully take over the leadership of this country and make it better in the near future, he said. He encouraged corps members to learn Hausa, acquire skills, and embrace their service year.

“Take responsibility to make your parents and the nation proud. I charge you to stay put and serve your father’s land, don’t put pressure on yourself to redeploy. Stay here, enjoy Zamfara State, learn the language, and acquire additional skills,” he added.

The DG assured corps members of their safety, noting that postings avoid high-risk areas after security assessments. He advised them to stay security-conscious, follow safety guidelines, obtain travel permissions, and avoid night journeys.

Zamfara NYSC Coordinator Mallam Muhammad Lawan Ahmed reported that corps members adapted well to camp activities and that the state collaborates with stakeholders to ensure their security and welfare.
