The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has announced that shortlisted companies in the 2025 Licensing Round will commence data acquisition as the bid process advances to the next phase.
The commission, in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Eniola Akinkuotu, on Tuesday, disclosed that it has successfully concluded the pre-qualification stage and has formally notified firms that met the requirements.
According to the regulatory body, the next phase of the exercise begins on March 17, 2026, with pre-qualified applicants now permitted to lease relevant geological and technical data needed to prepare their technical and commercial bids.

NUPRC stated that the data acquisition process is mandatory for all shortlisted firms, stressing that applicants are required to obtain the data strictly from the two approved sources specified in the licensing guidelines. It added that evidence of payment for the data must be uploaded as a prerequisite for bid submission.
The commission emphasised that compliance with these requirements is critical, noting that failure to adhere could disqualify applicants from proceeding further in the competitive bidding process.
“Please note, pre-qualified applicants are mandated to lease data only from the two data sources (as applicable) and upload evidence of payment as a prerequisite to the submission of bids,” it stated.
