The National Library of Nigeria (NLN) has announced the launch of a five-year (2025–2030) strategic plan that represents its journey of fostering literacy, education, research, cultural preservation and access to knowledge.
The National Librarian and Chief Executive Officer of NLN, Prof. Chinwe Anunobi disclosed this at an interactive meeting with NLN staff in Abuja as part of events to mark her 4th year in office.
She said the strategic objectives include digital transformation of library services to enhance accessibility and efficiency through digital platforms and cutting-edge technologies; digitising and curating Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage for global access and future generations; and promoting a reading culture, research activities, digital literacy and dynamic learning experiences across all demographics.
Other objectives include the establishment of innovative funding models and fostering partnerships to ensure operational and financial resilience; as well as strengthening governance, workforce capabilities and stakeholder engagement for long-term success.
She confirmed that NLN management discussed the objectives extensively at their recent meeting. “Consequently, every department is expected to engage or may already have started engaging, in activities that will ensure the realisation of these goals. As we do so, our eyes must remain fixed on innovation, youth engagement and reaching the unreached.

“By faithfully pursuing these initiatives, we will move to a higher trajectory and contribute meaningfully to national development. We must always remember that no nation grows without knowledge.
As custodians of knowledge, we must transform, rejig and reinvent the collation, processing and dissemination of information.
“Always remember my charge to you at assumption of duty: your responsibility is overwhelming, as other libraries are responsible for only one-tenth of what rests on the shoulders of NLN.”
She restated that the remaining time of her tenure would be used to consolidate on the gains made in the past four years of her administration in NLN.
“Therefore, to whom much is given, much is expected. Looking ahead, we remain hopeful for better days ahead. The construction of our permanent site, improved budgets and timely releases to ease our constraints, the delivery of our staff bus which contract has been awarded, expansion of directorate level to provide more opportunities for promotion, the expected launch of the NLN Fund, and many more breakthroughs to come. For me, better days are ahead and we must keep faith and hope alive,” she said.
