A suspect, Aliyu Sani, has been arrested by the police in Katsina after attempting to rob a resident with a toy pistol.
The Katsina State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.
Aliyu said the 19-year-old suspect was arrested at about 8:00pm on August 22 for impersonation and attempted armed robbery.
The police spokesman said this occurred after information was received at about 7:00pm same day that the suspect was seen chasing a yet-to-be-identified person while holding and pointing a toy pistol at the victim with the intent to rob him.
The police said, “Consequently, in collaboration with members of the local Vigilante Group, police operatives swiftly responded and arrested the suspect on the same date at about 8:00 pm at Kofar Sauri, Katsina.

“Upon arrest and search of the suspect, a black toy pistol was recovered in his possession.
“The suspect was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation during the initial interrogation regarding how he obtained the exhibit.
“The suspect is currently in custody as the investigation proceeds.”
The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Ali Umar Fage, commended the community and the local vigilante for their vigilance and cooperation.
He further urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station to decimate all forms of crime and criminality in the state.
