Barely a week after defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ifeanyi Okowa said President Bola Tinubu must complete eight years in office for the sake of Nigeria’s stability.

The former Delta governor stated this during an interview on Arise TV on Tuesday.

Elected in 2023, Tinubu is eligible for another four-year term in 2027.

However, the president has not indicated whether or not he would be seeking re-election.

Okowa explained that Tinubu’s re-election would uphold the turn of the South in the presidential rotation and serve Nigeria better.

Okowa said, “For the stability of this nation, it is best for us to have him complete his eight-year tenure. Then the presidency can move back to the North. I believe that is the right thing.”

Meanwhile, the 2023 vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) hinted that his former principal, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, could be on his out of the party.

He also lampooned the coalition being contrived by the opposition to unseat President Tinubu in 2027.

Okowa said, “I discussed the coalition with Atiku, who is on his way out of the PDP, before we moved to the APC.”

He added, “It does not seem that a viable vehicle has been confirmed for that coalition, nor does it appear that a coalition could build strength in such a short period.”
