Nigerian‑born entrepreneur, Chinedu Okoro, widely known as Larry Popo, was honoured at the African Business and Innovation Leadership Summit 2025, held in London. The summit gathered some of Africa’s most influential figures, including former ECOWAS Vice‑President, Dr Toga Gayewea McIntosh, Namibian President, Ndemupelila Netumbo Nandi‑Ndaitwah, former Liberian President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Gambian First Lady, Fatoumatta Bah‑Barrow, Benue State Governor, Rev. Father Hyacinth Alia and a range of senior Nigerian officials and governors.
Okoro’s recognition stemmed from his visionary leadership, entrepreneurial achievements and significant impact in both business and healthcare sectors. The award followed his recent election as Governor of the Nottinghamshire Healthcare (NHS) Foundation Trust in the UK, underscoring the expanding global footprint of African professionals.
A native of Uvuru, Enugu State, and raised in Lagos, Popo is the founder and CEO of Icon Music Records, a record label dedicated to developing emerging African artists.
He holds a degree in Business Administration from Anglia Ruskin University (Cambridge) and a BSc in Forensic and Mental Health Nursing from the University of Derby, qualifications that inform his work at the intersection of healthcare, governance and the creative industries.

Before his international prominence, he worked in banking with the now‑defunct Skye Bank Plc, before moving into entrepreneurship, philanthropy and entertainment. His humanitarian efforts include distributing food and essential supplies to widows and under‑privileged families in Uzo Uwani, Enugu State, reflecting his commitment to social responsibility.
In his acceptance remarks, he said: “I dedicate this award to every African striving to create positive change through innovation, leadership and service.”
The Africa Growth Summit, which hosted the event, continues to celebrate African leaders, who drive socio‑economic transformation, promote entrepreneurship and enhance the continent’s global standing.
