President of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mazi Afam Osigwe, will today, deliver the 53rd convocation lecture of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).
The acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Polycarp Chigbu, who announced this at the pre-convocation press briefing held at the Enugu Campus of the institution, said the eminent lawyer would speak on “Harnessing technological teaching and learning.”
He also said that the Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, would be the chairman of the event.
The acting VC further said 11,143 graduands would receive different degrees and diplomas from the University tomorrow.
He said that 195 would be graduating with First Class honours, 4,165 are for Second Class Upper Division, while 5,197 would bag Second Class Lower Division.
Chigbu also announced that 659 would graduate with Third Class; 22 Pass; 889 unclassified as well as 16 for diploma.
He further disclosed that 1,356 are for postgraduate degrees and diplomas.
According to him, in the postgraduate and diploma category, 431 would earn doctorate degrees; 848, masters degrees while 77 are for diplomas.
Additionally, he said that two prominent Nigerians would be awarded honorary doctorate degrees, while Prof. Felix Ezema Onah of the Social Sciences and Prof. Isaac Uzoma Asuzu, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, both retired professors, would be conferred with distinguished emeritus professorship.
On his achievements since assuming office four months ago, Chigbu said he was able to solve the perennial energy problem that had been bedevilling the institution over the years.
“Today, our inventiveness has seen not only a lasting solution to the crisis, we have also gained deep insights into sustainable energy solutions for the future. The illegal connections, energy theft, irresponsible use and dereliction of duty that have sabotaged electricity supply in UNN have been diagnosed and cured to a very large extent,” he said.
