The national leadership of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) has dismissed the suspension of the party’s National Chairman, Yabaji Sani, over allegations of forgery, unauthorised interference with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal, financial impropriety and anti-party activities.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Dr Sani Dawop, said in a statement yesterday that Sani remained the duly elected National Chairman of the ADP, whose mandate was renewed at the National Convention held on 29 and 30 May 2026.
Dawop said no constitutionally valid decision removing or suspending him had been taken, and that no facts had been established by the media publication.
He said: “ADP noted with serious concern the publication in Vanguard and Blueprint newspapers dated 6 November 2026, entitled “ADP suspends National chairman Yabagi Sani over alleged forgery.”
“The reports presents a purported suspension of the duly elected National Chairman, Engr. Yabagi Yusuf Sani, as a decision of the National Working Committee (NWC), while attributing allegations of forgery, unauthorised interference with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal, financial impropriety and anti-party activities to the Party.
“The National Leadership categorically disputes this account and rejects the attempt to present contested allegations and purported proceedings as the settled institutional position of the Action Democratic Party.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Engr. Yabagi Yusuf Sani remains the duly elected National Chairman of the Action Democratic Party, whose mandate was renewed at the National Convention held on 29 and 30 May 2026.
“The Party maintains that no constitutionally valid decision removing or suspending him has been taken or facts established by the publication in question.”

He clarified that, contrary to the impression created by the publications, the emergency meeting of the NWC held on Wednesday, 4 November 2026, addressed persistent disciplinary concerns involving Hon. Victor Fingesi, National Secretary of the party.
The publicity secretary noted that the meeting considered Fingesi’s responses to previous queries, alleged persistent acts of insubordination, refusal to comply with lawful directives of the party leadership, and conduct considered capable of undermining the unity, discipline and institutional integrity of the ADP. He added that Fingesi’s actions also bordered on conduct contrary to party supremacy.
“Following deliberations and appeals to Hon. Fingesi to retract the disputed statements and tender an apology, Ms Fatima Sani Muhammed, National Special Duties Secretary and Acting Deputy National Secretary, moved a motion requesting the NWC to exercise its emergency powers under Article 23.2(e) of the ADP Constitution 2026.
“The motion sought the immediate interim suspension of Hon. Victor Fingesi from the functions of National Secretary, commencement of disciplinary investigation and referral of the decision to the National Executive Committee (NEC) for ratification.
“In attendance and present at that NWC meeting were Hon. Victor Fingesi (suspended National Secretary) and Mr Ike Chinazam, the National Youth Leader (one of those twisting the NWC decision). They were among other NWC members who formed a quorum.
“The motion was seconded and passed at the Emergency NWC Meeting of 4 November 2026, with the interim suspension taking effect from that date.
“The Party therefore maintains that the operative disciplinary decision arising from that meeting concerned Hon. Victor Fingesi, not the National Chairman,” he added.
