The Nasarawa State Government has described the allegations levelled against it by the senatorial candidate for the Nasarawa North by-election on the platform of the Labour Party (LP), Labaran Maku, of a plot to rig the June 20 poll as false, malicious and baseless.
Addressing a press conference at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Lafia yesterday, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Abdullahi Sule on Public Affairs, Peter Ahemba, said the allegations were mere political grandstanding by a candidate allegedly worried about his electoral prospects.
Maku had alleged during a press conference in Akpata, Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area, that nine electoral wards had been marked for manipulation and that Governor Sule was allegedly collaborating with security agencies ahead of the election.

Rejecting the claims, Ahemba said: “Government hereby rejects the shameful allegation in its entirety. These claims are not only political grandstanding but also the product of a candidate rattled by his own poor standing among the electorate in the senatorial zone.”
According to him, Governor Sule has never directed, encouraged or facilitated interference in any election conducted during his administration.
“The allegations are false, malicious and entirely without foundation. Governor Sule has at no time, in this by-election or in any electoral exercise, conducted during his tenure, directed, encouraged or facilitated any interference with the will of the electorate,” he said.
Ahemba further dismissed claims that the governor held meetings with security chiefs to perfect plans to undermine the election, noting that the governor was outside the state on official engagements on the day in question.
