NANS lauds Tinubu’s procurement reforms, backs BPP leadership

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) on Tuesday condemned what it described as a coordinated plot to destabilise President Bola Tinubu’s administration through procurement-related allegations.

In a press conference held in Abuja, NANS said it has petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS) over the activities of a group it said was orchestrating a campaign targeting key government reform institutions, particularly the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).

The statement was read by NANS National Public Relations Officer, Comrade Samson Adeyemi.

The student body claimed the group is “faceless,” with unclear structure, leadership, and credibility, and that a petition issued by the group was signed by an individual whose identity cannot be independently verified.

According to NANS, available intelligence suggests the group is collaborating with opposition political figures and disgruntled elements, including some BPP staff opposed to reforms being implemented under President Tinubu and coordinated by BPP Director-General, Dr. Adebowale Adedokun.

NANS expressed concern over reports that the actors have staged a protest at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and are planning another in Lagos, stating that while peaceful protest is a constitutional right, these actions appear aimed at embarrassing the president, undermining reform institutions, and eroding public trust in government.

The association warned that unchecked activities could lead to a breakdown of law and order and heightened national tension.

In its petition, NANS urged the DSS to probe the coalition’s true identity, funding sources, and motives; examine alleged collaborations between political actors and disaffected public officers aimed at sabotaging reforms; prevent actions threatening public peace; and prosecute anyone found culpable.

NANS emphasised its commitment to democracy, peace, and national stability, stating that its actions are driven by patriotism and a desire to protect democratic governance.
