The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has honoured Provost of the Federal College of Education (FCE), Abeokuta, Ogun State, Dr Rafiu Soyele, for his proactive approach toward addressing students’ concerns.
This was contained in a Sunday statement signed by the Executive Director, Administration and Planning,
NANS Headquarters, Comrade Oladimeji Uthman.
Soyele was conferred with the NANS Academia Award during the student body’s 45th anniversary in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Uthman disclosed that the honour was conferred after a thorough and merit-based evaluation process that recognises the provost’s outstanding contributions to academic excellence, progressive institutional leadership and unwavering commitment to the advancement of education within Nigeria’s tertiary landscape.
The statement reads, “In an era where the educational sector faces multifaceted challenges, the provost has consistently demonstrated visionary leadership, fostering an environment that promotes academic innovation, staff development, infrastructural growth, and, most importantly, the holistic well-being of students.
“Under his administration, FCE Abeokuta has witnessed commendable strides in institutional stability, academic standardisation, and student-inclusive governance.”
During the award presentation, the leadership of NANS extolled the provost’s proactive approach toward addressing students’ concerns, maintaining an open-door policy and ensuring that policies within the institution reflect fairness, inclusivity and progressive ideals.
The association said these qualities, among others, distinguish the provost as a worthy recipient of the NANS Academia Award.
In his acceptance remarks, the provost expressed profound appreciation to the students’ leadership, NANS, for the recognition, describing it as both an honour and a renewed call to service.
He reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering dedication to sustaining educational development, enhancing teaching and learning infrastructure, and prioritising students’ welfare as a cornerstone of institutional growth.
He further emphasised that education remains the bedrock of national development and assured that FCE Abeokuta will continue to align with global best practices in teacher education, capacity building and student empowerment.
The statement further reads, “NANS views this recognition not merely as an award but as a reinforcement of the values of excellence, accountability, and service in Nigeria’s education sector.
“The association reiterates its commitment to identifying, celebrating and partnering with visionary academic leaders who are genuinely invested in the future of Nigerian students.
“As the foremost voice of Nigerian students, NANS remains resolute in advocating for improved learning conditions, accessible education and policies that promote the intellectual and socio-economic development of students nationwide.”
