The National Association of Microfinance Banks (NAMB) has entered a new chapter with the inauguration of Dr. Adenrele Oni as its national president during the association’s 16th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and National Working Committee (NWC) inauguration held in Abuja.
Assuming the mantle of leadership, Dr. Oni pledged to deepen the impact of Nigeria’s microfinance banking industry while calling on the Federal Government to strengthen support for Microfinance Banks (MFBs) through increased interventions and a more enabling regulatory environment to accelerate financial inclusion, empower small businesses and stimulate economic growth.
He emphasided that Microfinance Banks remain indispensable partners in the Federal Government’s economic reform agenda, particularly in expanding access to finance, reducing poverty and driving grassroots economic development.
“Microfinance banks have contributed so much in supporting the Federal Government’s reforms aimed at transforming the economy, promoting financial inclusion and alleviating poverty. Looking at where we were and where we are today, it is evident that we have made remarkable progress,” Dr. Oni said.
The new NAMB President also unveiled plans to intensify nationwide advocacy and public enlightenment campaigns to boost confidence in the microfinance banking sector and educate more Nigerians on the critical role MFBs play in national development and inclusive economic prosperity.
Earlier, the immediate past national president, Alhaji Abubakar Adamu Ahmad, credited the association’s remarkable achievements over the years to the steadfast support and collaboration of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), whose commitment has continued to strengthen the industry’s growth and resilience.
The landmark event also featured the inauguration of the new National Working Committee and brought together key stakeholders across the financial services industry. Among those captured at the ceremony were the Immediate Past President, Alhaji Abubakar Adamu Ahmad; the representative of the Managing Director of Moniepoint MFB, Bemigho Awala; the newly inaugurated National President, Dr. Adenrele Oni and the National First Vice President, Benjamin Mapac.
The AGM and leadership transition marked a defining moment for Nigeria’s microfinance banking sector, reinforcing institutional continuity, visionary leadership and a renewed commitment to advancing financial inclusion, empowering underserved communities and positioning Microfinance Banks as strategic drivers of sustainable national economic development
