The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has clarified that the Indomie Noodles Vegetable Flavour recently recalled by health authorities in France does not originate from Nigeria and is not a product registered for sale in the country.
In a press statement released on Sunday, signed by the Director-General, NAFDAC, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, the agency said it became aware of the recall announced by the French authority, Rappel Conso, due to the presence of undeclared allergens, specifically milk and eggs, which pose potential health risks to consumers with allergies or intolerances.
Adeyeye stated that although the affected product is not approved for the Nigerian market, NAFDAC has intensified surveillance nationwide as a precautionary measure to prevent its possible entry into the country. She explained that zonal directors and state coordinators have been directed to remain vigilant and to seize the product if found within their jurisdictions, while the Ports Inspection Directorate has also been placed on heightened alert.
The agency further emphasised that the recalled Indomie Noodles Vegetable Flavour is not registered by NAFDAC and that noodles are on the Federal Government’s Import Prohibition List, making their importation into Nigeria illegal. According to the agency, this significantly reduces the risk of the affected product being available in the local market.

NAFDAC also reassured the public that all Indomie instant noodles and other noodle brands approved for sale in Nigeria are manufactured locally and subjected to strict regulatory oversight, including compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards, before being granted registration.
Consumers were advised to exercise caution, discard the recalled product if encountered, and promptly report any suspected sale or distribution to the nearest NAFDAC office. Reports of adverse reactions linked to consumption can also be submitted via NAFDAC’s e-reporting platforms on its official website.
The agency reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public health and assured Nigerians that it remains proactive in monitoring food safety concerns, including those affecting citizens who may travel abroad or purchase products online.
