NAF projects reflect commitment to personnel welfare – Air Force chief

By Philip Nwosu

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, has said that the newly inaugurated accommodation blocks and sports complex for Nigerian Air Force personnel reflect his deliberate and sustained commitment to improving the welfare of officers and men.

Aneke made the remark on Tuesday while commissioning the facilities at 055 NAFCAMP, Legico Barracks, Victoria Island, Lagos.

According to him, providing a conducive living environment for personnel and their families remains a critical factor in boosting morale and enhancing operational efficiency within the Service.

The projects inaugurated include two blocks of 24 two-bedroom flats, one block of 40 one-bedroom flats, as well as a purpose-built multipurpose sports complex for airmen and airwomen.

The CAS explained that the facilities were designed to move beyond the traditional barracks concept and to offer more dignified and modern accommodation for personnel.

“These facilities represent a significant departure from the traditional barrack concept to which we have long been accustomed. Distinguished by thoughtful architectural design and executed to the highest standards, they stand as a remarkable edifice, both functional in purpose and pleasing in appearance,” Aneke said.

He emphasised that his command philosophy centres on building a highly motivated and mission-ready Air Force capable of delivering decisive airpower in support of national security objectives.

“My command philosophy is to enhance and sustain a highly motivated professional force capable of delivering decisive air power effects in synergy with surface forces,” he added.

Air Marshal Aneke insisted that the new barracks should be reserved exclusively for airmen and airwomen, stressing that personnel welfare must remain a top priority at all times.

He also noted that the strategic location of Legico Barracks within Lagos State enhances its status as one of the most desirable residential environments for service personnel in the country.

The CAS paid glowing tribute to his predecessor, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar (rtd), for initiating the projects, acknowledging his vision and strategic foresight.

“These buildings did not appear from nowhere. It took the mind, brain and time of Air Marshal Abubakar to conceive this concept. I am only coming to take the glory, but he did all the hard work,” Aneke said.

He assured personnel that adequate housing would continue to receive priority attention under his leadership, noting that comfortable living conditions enable officers and men to focus fully on their operational duties.

Aneke urged beneficiaries of the facilities to maintain them responsibly and with a strong sense of ownership.

“Use these structures as if they were your own homes. Let them remain a source of comfort, dignity and motivation for both present and future occupants,” he charged.

The CAS expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, the Federal Government and the National Assembly for their support and fiscal interventions that made the projects possible.

He reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to contributing effectively to the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government and to ensuring the security and stability of the country.
