Mutfwang Congratulates journalists on Freedom Day

Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has acknowledged the pivotal role played by Nigerian Journalists in fostering, and preserving democracy in the country.

Mutfwang, in a goodwill message to mark World Press Freedom Day 2024, encouraged pen pushers to maintain the highest standards of their profession amidst increasing challenges encountered in revealing corruption, criminal activities, and other societal issues.

The governor advocated for a deeper commitment to investigative journalism, which is crucial for uncovering developmental hurdles and promoting narratives that cast Nigeria and Africa in a positive light.

In a statement signed by the Director of the Affairs, Gyang Bere, the governor called on the media to actively participate in shaping public discourse around pressing concerns such as security, climate change, economic instability, and other critical issues that impact the welfare of citizens. He enjoined the media to propose viable solutions for these challenges, in order to contribute their quota to the betterment of society.

He urged media industry stakeholders to devise a robust strategy for the prevention and protection of journalists against crimes, safeguarding freedom of expression, and addressing disinformation and misinformation with factual reporting.

Governor Mutfwang commended the bravery, commitment, and perseverance of Nigerian journalists, urging them to continue being a symbol of hope and unity amidst Nigeria’s rich diversity.

He reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering support for journalists and the media industry, especially those in Plateau State, and pledged ongoing collaboration with the media to foster a harmonious and tranquil Plateau State.
