The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Kingsley Udeh, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s determination to build an innovation ecosystem that is both inclusive and rooted in Nigeria’s cultural identity.

Speaking at the 2025 World Science Day Celebration held in Abuja, themed “Trust, Transformation and Tomorrow: The Science We Need for 2050,” Udeh said no nation can achieve sustainable development without a strong foundation in science, technology, and innovation (STI).

He explained that the government is formulating policies to integrate local knowledge, culture, and creativity into Nigeria’s innovation framework, ensuring that scientific progress reflects the country’s social and cultural realities.

“Our young people hold the key to Nigeria’s technological advancement. By empowering them and creating an enabling environment, we can build an economy that is competitive, inclusive, and sustainable,” Udeh said.

He urged Nigerians to support greater youth participation in science, technology, and innovation, describing the younger generation as the innovators and entrepreneurs who will shape the nation’s future.

The minister added that practical solutions derived from homegrown technology must be the driving force behind Nigeria’s development efforts.

In her welcome address, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Esuabana Asanya, described innovation, science, and technology as the bedrock of every developed nation, calling on Nigerians to collaborate in promoting innovation that enhances efficiency and progress.

Highlights of the event included the presentation of awards to the best-performing students in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and a tour of the Junior Engineers, Technologists and Scientists (JETS) exhibition by the Minister and other dignitaries.
