Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, Onitsha Mega Regional Headquarter, South East 5, has given succour to the elderly by celebrating and honouring them, thereby giving them a sense of belonging and lifting their spirits.
The Church has provided a Free Food Mart where different food items, ranging from rice, yam, beans, plantain, garri, and fufu as well as meat, other proteins and condiments are made available free for over 400 families to cushion the effect of hunger in the country.
The church also organised different free skill acquisition programmes with starter packs for members within and outside the church to make them financially independent as well as put food on their tables.
Mega Regional Overseer (MRO), Pastor Christopher Kolawole, said the church, which has been a beacon of hope in a special way, decided to offer both spiritual and material support to the elderly in a bid to put smiles and joy to their faces.
Kolawole emphasised the importance of extending God’s love to the elderly and highlighted MFM’s achievements in fostering independence, spiritual growth, and renewed purpose among the elderly.
The MRO said the church also played a crucial role in building a sense of community among the elderly by organising regular gatherings and activities, which provide opportunities for social interaction and emotional support.
He explained that the General Overseer of MFM Worldwide, Dr. Daniel Olukoya, and his wife, Dr. (Mrs) Folashade Olukoya, had given a clear directive for the church to intensify efforts to positively impact lives beyond biblical spiritual teachings and deliverance prayers through different Welfare and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes.
He appreciated Dr. Olukoya and his wife for championing the empowerment drive and promised that the church would continue to promote community development through skill-based programmes, alongside its well-known spiritual activities.
He added that the Women Foundation arm of the church, led by Mrs. Olukoya, continues to organise deliverance programmes, biblical seminars, and diverse skill acquisition training, aimed at empowering women spiritually and economically.
There was enough to eat for the elderly as they were also given the opportunity to present special songs, dance, drama, and to declare blessings and favour upon the church.
Participants expressed gratitude, describing how the support they received has helped them overcome challenges, improve their health, and live with dignity.
One of the elderly celebrated said being honoured by the church has increased his faith in God, while others said the gesture made them feel younger. The high point of the celebration was the cutting of the cake by the celebrants.
