MDAs: We are committed to efficient public service – Reps

Oronsaye Report, white papers to guide restructuring efforts

From Ndubuisi Orji, Abuja

The House of Representatives has pledged its commitment to enhancing public service efficiency by reducing redundancy in Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

Ibrahim Isiaka, Chairman of the House Special Ad-hoc Committee on Restructuring of Federal Government Agencies and Commissions, stated that the parliament aims to establish a responsive government that effectively addresses the needs of the people.

To achieve this, Isiaka announced that the panel will review the Stephen Oronsaye Report and all white papers related to restructuring federal government agencies, parastatals, and commissions.

“The Oronsaye Report, published in 2012, highlighted various recommendations for rationalising and optimising government agencies to enhance efficiency and cost-effectiveness,” Isiaka explained.

He emphasized the importance of revisiting these recommendations and other relevant white papers to ensure government structures align with current realities, best practices, and the evolving needs of society.

“Our goal is to streamline operations, eliminate duplication of functions, enhance service delivery, and optimise resource allocation through legislative measures,” he added. “This review will be comprehensive and thorough, considering diverse perspectives and expertise.”

Isiaka stressed the need for government agencies and commissions to adapt to the rapidly changing world and deliver on their mandates effectively. The review process aims to identify redundancies, duplications, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement within these entities.
