Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs Toke Benson-Awoyinka, has commended the French Cognac pop-up – the Martell Tower for its innovative approach to blending cognac education, culture and luxury.

The commissioner, during a visit to the Tower, admitted she initially thought it was another marketing initiative, but was captivated by the depth and sophistication of the experience.

“I thought this was just another clever branding campaign. But as I went through the tour, I realised it’s so much more. It’s beyond just the cognac – it’s truly an educational experience.”

The Martell Tower offers an immersive journey into the world of cognac, highlighting its 300-year legacy, the intricacies of the distillation process, and the artistry behind its creation. Mrs. Benson-Awoyinka was particularly struck by how the experience sparked her curiosity about the artistry and craftsmanship involved.

“This has inspired me to learn more about the grapes, distillation process, and the journey that brought us to the creation of such fine cognac. Clearly, this vision goes beyond selling a product to celebrating heritage, innovation and artistry. Kudos to the team for creating something so impactful,” she declared.

The commissioner lauded the brand for its ability to educate while entertaining, noting that it sets a high standard for cultural attractions in Lagos. She emphasised its potential to attract both local and international audiences, enhancing Lagos’ status as a vibrant destination for experiential tourism.

“This is a shining example of how culture and luxury can intersect to create something truly meaningful. I encourage everyone to visit and experience it for themselves,” she stated.

Expressing gratitude for the commissioner’s visit, Managing Director, Pernod Ricard Nigeria, Micheal Ehindero, said: “We are deeply honoured by the recognition received today. This reaffirms our commitment to delivering an experience that exceeds expectations. From ideation to execution, The Martell Tower was designed to be more than just a social hub – it represents our dedication to bringing the artistry of French Cognac to Nigeria, sharing our 300-year legacy, and fostering cognac education within the Nigerian community.”

The Martell Tower’s 10-week pop-up experience, which ran from November 8 to January 4, attracted diverse visitors who were immersed in the history, artistry and innovation behind the world’s oldest cognac.
