The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of a 26-year-old man, Kehinde Asimiyu, following an alleged fatal altercation at Olodo Garage, Ibadan.

The suspects, identified as Taiwo Babarinde and Ishola Semiu, are currently in police custody over their alleged involvement in the incident.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday evening by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the incident was reported to the command on November 1, 2026.

The statement said Asimiyu was allegedly stabbed with a broken bottle by Babarinde following an altercation between the two men at Olodo Garage.

The deceased’s family reportedly learnt of the attack when an unidentified motorcycle rider arrived at their residence to inform them of the incident.

Police operatives subsequently mobilised to the scene, while the victim was rushed to Academy Hospital, Texaco, Iwo Road, Ibadan, where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

His remains were later deposited at Adejare Embalming Centre for preservation.

The police said Babarinde was suspected of inflicting the fatal injury, while Semiu was arrested over his alleged involvement in the incident.

The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan, for comprehensive investigation.

Meanwhile, the command said unrest erupted at the Olodo Police Outpost following the incident, raising concerns over a possible breakdown of law and order.

It added that reports of threats by suspected hoodlums prompted the deployment of additional security personnel, including the Nigerian Army, Amotekun Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other local security operatives.

The police said the coordinated deployment had helped restore normalcy, with security personnel maintaining a presence in the area to prevent further disturbances.

As part of efforts to address the situation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, also directed the Area Commander, Moniya, to engage community stakeholders.

The Area Commander subsequently held a strategic meeting with representatives of the Local Council Development Area, tricycle and motorcycle operators, and youth leaders to discuss measures to prevent further violence and promote peaceful coexistence.

The command warned individuals or groups against exploiting the incident to foment trouble, incite violence or destabilise the area, stressing that anyone threatening public peace would be dealt with decisively.

Olugbenga urged residents to remain calm, shun violence and embrace dialogue in resolving disagreements.

He also called on members of the public to provide credible and timely information to security agencies, assuring residents that adequate measures were in place to protect lives and property.

The police provided the Oyo State Call Response Centre toll-free line, 615, and its control room numbers, 08081768614 and 07055495413, for emergencies.
