The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has directed its structures across the geopolitical zone to participate fully in the Food & Safety Summit 2.0 holding Wednesday, November 4 in Lagos.

This is contained in a statement signed by Coordinator, NANS Southwest Zone D, Comrade Josiah Adeyemo.

The notice, according to the statement, applies to Joint Campus Councils, Students’ Union Governments, student leaders and students across the six states of the Southwest.

Themed, “Safe Food, Healthy Students and Combating the Risk of Food Insecurity,” the summit holds at the Glass House Auditorium, University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos State.

The statement reads, “Food safety and food security are no longer matters that should be left exclusively to government agencies and industry professionals.

“They directly affect the health, academic performance, financial stability and general well-being of every student. The increasing cost of food, unsafe food-handling practices and students’ limited access to nutritious meals demand urgent attention and collective action.

“This summit provides an important platform for students to learn from policymakers, food-safety professionals, government representatives, industry stakeholders and other experienced resource persons.

“Participants will gain practical knowledge about identifying unsafe food, making healthier food choices, preventing food-related illnesses and contributing meaningfully to the campaign against food insecurity within our campuses and communities.

“We therefore encourage our structures to mobilise their members to attend and take full advantage of the various opportunities the summit provides in the areas of education, policy engagement, professional networking, collaboration and student-welfare advocacy.

“Every participant must approach the programme with the readiness to learn, ask relevant questions, establish meaningful connections and transfer the knowledge gained to their respective institutions.”

NANS Southwest commended the Convener and Welfare Director of NANS Southwest Zone D, Comrade Sadiq Adams, for developing this important initiative and placing the health and welfare of students at the centre of his mandate.

“We equally appreciate the leadership of NANS JCC Lagos Axis, under Comrade Odewunmi Quadri, for its partnership, mobilisation and commitment towards the success of this regional programme.

“Our appreciation also goes to the leadership of the Students’ Union Government of the University of Lagos for providing the necessary institutional support and demonstrating its readiness to welcome students and delegates from across the Southwest.

“We recognise the contributions of all government agencies, professional organisations, speakers, panelists, partners and stakeholders supporting the programme.

“Their willingness to engage directly with the student community reflects a shared commitment to building healthier campuses and a more food-secure society.

“Safe food is not a privilege. It is a fundamental necessity. Healthy students remain the foundation of productive institutions and a prosperous nation,” the statement further reads.
